The University of Illinois Medical Center is a member of the Illinois Medical District, one of the largest urban healthcare, educational, research, and technology districts in the USA. The Medical Center itself is composed of a 485-bed hospital, outpatient diagnostic and specialty clinics, and two Federally Qualified Health Centers that serve as primary teaching facilities for the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Health Science Colleges. Most residents and employees live in apartments in West Loop, Bucktown, Wicker Park, River North, and South Loop.
